The three beneficiaries of this year’s ‘Local Community Fund’ – courtesy of shoppers at the Ruddington Co-op – have been announced. This time two of the organisations are based in our village and the third over in Clifton.
It’s been revealed this week that The Ruddington Pantry, Ruddington & District U3A and 1st Clifton Scout Group will all receive cash from the new round of funding – which runs from 24th October 2022 for the next 12 months.
Member Pioneer for Ruddington and Clifton, Gwen Eyre, explains: “The Ruddington Co-op store and the Co-op Funeralcare in Clifton are really excited to be working with these three causes in the coming year. Anyone can apply for a membership card for £1. Then, every time a member shops at Co-op, 2p for every £1 spent goes into your individual membership account. The same is then split between national organisations which align with Co-op’s vision of cooperating for a fairer world and local causes selected by Co-op staff, with each receiving 1p per £1 shop.”
You can select the local cause you would like to support from the three options. If you do not select a specific cause, the Co-op will share the funds you raised equally between all three. Members can also log into their account and change the cause they support at any time.
The Ruddington Pantry says it will use the money to buy an additional fridge-freezer and ambient storage capacity in St Peter’s Rooms: “We would like to buy comfortable seating so visitors can stop for a hot drink and a chat.”
Ruddington & District U3A says: “We aim to hold targeted sessions to provide our members with knowledge and information relating to physical, financial, personal safety and health issues.”
1st Clifton Scout Group says it would like to provide a free-to-all-sections group camp and day trip for its youngest section, the Squirrels: “This is the first section of its kind to be initiated in our district.”
